The P 8 was universally applicable and could be found in front of all types of trains. After the turmoil of the two world wars, they were in use by almost all European railway administrations. These machines were found in Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Yugoslavia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Romania, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union.
162 locomotives arrived in France in 1919, of which 25 went to the AL, 25 to the EST, 75 to the NORD, 17 to the ETAT (as 230.943–959, all except the 943 decommissioned in 1940) and 20 to the MIDI. Four more arrived in 1945
