PIKO 53213 - Compartment car B4p 2nd class DR III without brakeman's cab
Compartment car B4p 2nd class of the DR Ep. III, without brakeman's cab
In 1899, the Saxon State Railway began building purely 2nd class cars, which were intended for passenger and express train service. As with the previous cars, the arrangement and number of compartments and toilets determined the length of the car body. The cars had a total of eight upholstered class compartments and three toilets between the seating compartments. The lighting was achieved using gas containers placed under the cars. The bogie corresponded to the standard Prussian design with pressed side panels. The heating was powered by steam from the locomotives. Some cars received raised brakeman's cabs. After the Second World War, the cars remained in various parts of Europe and were even used sporadically until the 1970s.
