Jouef HJ2417 - SNCF, tender steam locomotive 2-040 D 65, Depot Calais, Ep. III
Prototype information
These locomotives belong to the type G81 of the Royal Prussian Railway (KPEV), of which over 5,000 were built in Germany between 1913 and 1921. After the armistice of 1918, over 1,500 locomotives were transferred to Belgium, Poland and France.
In France, the companies Alsace-Lorraine, Compagnie de l'Est, Compagnie du Nord, ETAT, Paris-Orléans, MIDI and PLM received a large number of these machines. From 1946, however, only the North and East regions used these machines in operations. When they were in use, they served as freight trains.
The 1-040 D 260 SNCF (ex G8.¹ 5260 Alsace-Lorraine) was the last machine in operation and was abolished on July 1, 1966.
These locomotives had a 3-speed tender with a capacity of 16.5 m³ of water and 7 tons of coal, an output of 934 kW and a maximum speed of 50 km/h.
