BRAWA 42910 - H0 TRAXX diesel locomotive BR 245 “Long-Distance Sylt” DB AG
Exemplary information
In April 2011, a framework agreement was signed between Deutsche Bahn AG and Bombardier Transportation, which provides for the delivery of up to 200 new TRAXX P160 DE ME. The locomotives, a new line-up of the 245 series, are intended as a replacement for the now outdated large diesel locomotives of the 218 series. The diesel-electric locomotives have four diesel engines (ME - Multi Engine) that drive four generators to generate electricity, which in turn feed the traction motors via the power converters. The diesel engines switch on and off automatically - depending on the power required of the locomotive. This serves to reduce the idle time of the engines, which has a positive effect on fuel consumption. This motorization therefore fits perfectly into DB AG's new ecological and sustainable environmental concept. Due to the derivation from the TRAXX product family, around 70% of all components used are compatible with the existing TRAXX locomotives. The 245 series is assembled and constructed in the former Henschel & Sohn factory in Kassel, which today belongs to Bombardier. Large components such as locomotive bodies and bogies are supplied from the Wroclaw and Siegen factories, among others. The first batch of 20 locomotives for DB Regio was called up as soon as the contract was signed. The new locomotive series 245 003-9 was officially presented at InnoTrans 2012. The first 245s are being manufactured at DB Regio in Kempten and Frankfurt a. M. is based and have already successfully completed the first test drives.
