The The series of these types of wagons is gradually being expanded with variants in color and printing. The handicapped-accessible wagons (Bhmpz 228) and wagons for bicycle transport (Bdmpz 227) that have been in use since 2015/16 - all conversions from former ÖBB wagons - are also in preparation.
The role models
Due to the Due to the increasing passenger train traffic and the need to have wagons with a maximum permissible speed of 200 km/h, the Czech Railways/Ceské Dráhy purchased them from 1999/2000 (Ampz 146 and Bmz 245 as well as WRmz 815) and again from 2006 (Ampz 143 , Bmz 241) in two series of EuroCity passenger coaches, 1st and 2nd class, and matching dining options at Siemens in Austria. The carriage concept was based heavily on the pressure-tight passenger carriages delivered to the Austrian Federal Railways from 1989 onwards, but was technically and visually refined in some points.
For the 1st class, only open-plan carriages with 2+1 seating were planned. The large space was and is divided by a glass partition with a passage. This partition also divided the smoking and non-smoking areas until 2007. The 2nd class was delivered exclusively as a compartment car with six seats in the classic style per compartment. In the dining car, a bistro area was provided at one end of the car and the restaurant area at the other. In the bistro area there was initially space for a semi-circular table with chairs and bistro bar tables, which were replaced with a counter during the renovation from around 2013/14.
All cars were given the smooth-running SGP-300 bogies from Siemens and multi-voltage equipment Cross-border driving even in countries with different heating voltages. The units on the underbody were - like their ÖBB counterparts - designed to be closed with a trough; only the transformer and air conditioning unit are openly accessible. Their design differs from both the original ÖBB series and the “upgrade” version.
The cars are primarily used in EuroCity trains from Hamburg and Kiel to Prague, but are also used in domestic Czech traffic. also on trains to Slovakia. Aarhus in Denmark, Binz on Rügen, Stettin in Poland, Ljubljana in Slovenia as well as Linz, Vienna and Budapest were and are among the destinations of these cars.
