PIKO 47481 - TT sound electric locomotive BR S499.02 CSD IV, including PIKO sound decoder
Surprise news for 2023: As alternating current electrification progresses, ČSD's need for suitable locomotives grew. As a further development of the BR S499.0, the robust S499.02 machines were created in the mid-1970s. For cost reasons, the locomotive body of the new S499.02 was no longer made of glass fiber reinforced plastic, but of steel, which is why the locomotives differed significantly from the S499.0 on the outside. Between 1975 and 1981, 86 units entered service with ČSD and were used on both freight and passenger trains. In the 1980s, some of the locomotives received modern single-arm pantographs and in 1988 they were reclassified as the 242 series. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, all BR S499.02 went to the Czech Railways (ČD) and are still in use there today.
