Prototype information

Based on the Astride platform, this locomotive is designed to pull freight and passenger trains. Its strong tractive effort and its ability to pull trains weighing more than 2,000 tons make it one of the most powerful locomotives in the Akiem fleet for France or Morocco.
Initially designed for direct runs between Belgium and Italy, the locomotives numbered 36001 to 36030 were ultimately approved only for the French and Belgian networks (today they are banned from the Belgian network due to the lack of ERTMS). De facto, they specialized in these two areas of action. The former locomotives 36031 to 36060 in turn lost their Belgian equipment to be approved for the Italian network. These 30 locomotives were renumbered BB 36300 to denote their suitability for the RFI network. This locomotive thus avoids a load break when crossing the border, in particular a locomotive change due to different supply flows and signaling, and enables a considerable time saving, as there is no need to stagger with Italian or Belgian machines.
The BB 36000 is equipped with two-engine bogies. Technically they are designed for a maximum speed of up to 220 km/h, but they do not reach these speeds in current use. The sixty BB 36000 were delivered between 1996 (16 January 1996 for the 36001) and 2002 (29 June 2002 for the 36060). These locomotives have a "family resemblance" to the "Sybic", but have rounded corners and better aerodynamics.
