Hobbytrain set of 3 double-decker cars set DB, Ep.IIIa, interior lighting
In 1950, the first three 22.4 m double-decker cars with standard car bodies were built for travel at Wegmann in Kassel. The three 26.4 m cars followed in 1951. In Era IIIa, there were originally two trains with three cars each as 3rd class, 2/3 class and a dining car in the distinctive blue color scheme. From Era IIIb onwards, both types of carriage ran in one train. Up to 5 cars were used at most. The sixth car remained in reserve. The dining car was converted into a pure seating car.
These cars were also combined with “normal” D-train cars as a train. Put into service in 1951, they ran between the Ruhr area and Frankfurt, from 1953 on the Hamburg/Bremen city service, from 1963/64 Kiel/Lübeck, from 1966/67 the greater Cologne area. At the beginning of the 1970s, the vehicles were decommissioned after almost 20 years of use. Over the course of its almost 20 years of use, the paintwork changed from steel blue, Ep.IIIb, to bottle green, Ep.IIIb, to chrome oxide green, Ep. IIIb - IV.
