Brawa 50933 - H0 Covered freight car Glr "Bleittraäthylfluid" DR
Prototype information
The association designs of the German State Railway Wagon Association already included a spacious covered freight car, which was used in particular for loads with low weight and large volumes. After the founding of the DRG, the most important standard freight cars were redesigned according to the so-called exchange construction principles. The manufacturing tolerances were kept so small that exchange parts could be exchanged without any problems. The design of the new spacious G-car was based heavily on its association design predecessor. The main dimensions such as wheelbase and length over buffers were adopted, as were the two-meter-wide doors that opened to the right, although they were installed hanging. New features were the riveted truss, which allowed a lower design of the longitudinal beam, and the barrel-shaped roof instead of the basket arch of the previous cars. Some of the wagons had a handbrake with a brakeman's cab and/or gauge-changing wheel sets for the transition to the Russian broad gauge, recognizable by the white-painted buffer sleeves and the secondary type symbol "r". All covered, large-capacity wagons were classified in the "Dresden" type district. As already mentioned, the wagons were particularly suitable for light goods with large volumes (e.g. the glass industry). A number of changes were made when the design was later revised - for example, longer and softer suspension springs were installed, which allowed higher speeds and thus use in passenger trains. After 1945, as a result of the chaos of the war, both German railway administrations and many other European railways had wagons of this type in their fleet. The last ones were only taken out of service in the 1980s - proof of the quality and durability of the construction.
