BRAWA 50845 - H0 train set F 3/4 Merkur DB, 5 pieces
Role model information
Reconstruction in Germany was in full swing when the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) launched a network of F-trains for official and business travel in the summer of 1951. At that time, the DB was able to send a clear signal against the emerging individual automobile transport and the rapidly developing aviation industry, which also found recognition abroad.
From the beginning there was also a train network The train pair F 3/4 from Frankfurt (M) via Cologne to Hamburg and back, which was given the train name “Merkur” in 1952. In Roman mythology, Mercury is the god of trade, traders and travelers.
Over time, Mercury changed its appearance more frequently, and the route was also adapted to the needs of customers. Initially, class 01 locomotives took over the hauling of the trains. In subsequent years, the 03, 03.10, 18.5, 18.6, 39, V200 and E18 series served as train locomotives. From the summer of 1959 to 1961, the F3 ran from Frankfurt via Wiesbaden Hbf. The carriage material had already been converted to the new 26.4 m long 1st class carriages with an old dining car of type WR4ü-28, -35 or -39. For this section of the route, the 01 149 from the Darmstadt depot was regularly used in front of the Merkur in the summer of 1959. Certainly also for economic reasons, the BR 01 of the Wiesbaden depot took over the train transport, as is illustrated by our 01 115.
