BRAWA 50817 - H0 passenger car Bdghwse534.0 DB AG
Role model information
Like the DB, the DR also struggled after the Second World War with the enormous maintenance costs of the outdated wooden compartment cars. Therefore, the Deutsche Reichsbahn decided to completely renovate the base frames to a uniform length. In 1963, the first cars built according to this scheme were handed over to the DR by Raw Halberstadt. This process was soon abandoned due to the poor condition of the old, usable assemblies used. It was decided to build the cars entirely from new components; the “Görlitz V” bogie, which had recently been newly developed and had no axle holders, was used as the running gear. The chosen length of 18.7 m results from the structural conditions of the manufacturing plant. From 1963 to 1977, 3,030 “Bghwe” cars were built, which were seen in almost every passenger train in the DR in the 1970s and 1980s. Initially, the cars were used particularly in express trains due to their contemporary comfort and also reached destinations in the Federal Republic. They were regularly seen in Nuremberg, Hamburg and the Ruhr area. When it appeared, its paintwork was green with a decorative stripe running under the windows and a black contrasting long beam. While the DR planned to convert the cars, including new windows and new interior furnishings, they were no longer in service until 1995 after the two German railways were merged due to the changed traffic conditions. Vehicles of this type can still be seen in use today at DB AG, as well as at many clubs and museum railways.
