In the 1990s, the 216 series had reached the end of its useful life. After the locomotives and personnel were divided between the business areas, the 216 was found at DB Cargo, as the freight transport division was called at the time. Since, in contrast to previous years, the focus was on a rapid implementation of the “corporate identity”, numerous locomotives from all series were repainted.
