Model information

The Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is a complex that includes a royal palace, a basilica, a pantheon, a library, a college and a monastery. It is located in the Spanish town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, in the community of Madrid, and was built in the 16th century between 1563 and 1584 by King Philip II and his architect Juan Bautista de Toledo. The palace was the residence of the Spanish royal family, the basilica is the burial place of the Spanish kings, and the monastery, founded by monks of the Order of Saint Jerome, is now inhabited by friars of the Order of Saint Augustine. It is one of the most unique examples of Renaissance architecture in Spain and Europe. El Escorial was designed in the second half of the 16th century by King Philip II and his architect Juan Bautista de Toledo.

ALSA operates the Felipe II train, which takes passengers through the Sierra de Guadarrama from Madrid's Príncipe Pío station to El Escorial station, where they can visit the monastery and its gardens, have lunch in the restaurants of this beautiful mountain village and return to Madrid in the afternoon. The train is made up of one of the two historic diesel locomotives, ALCO 2148 and ALCO 2150, which power four carriages of the 6000 series owned by ALSA. The locomotives and the passenger carriages have been fully restored and returned to their original state, offering a magnificent appearance, while respecting all safety measures.
