Note: Wired decoders (also ...R and ...F types) are each supplied with a free electrolytic capacitor of 680 to 1000μF. This is used to test the energy storage connection; the effect is already noticeable at this capacity. For real use, much larger capacities, e.g. GoldCaps, are recommended.

The term "flat decoder" comes from the low height due to the single-sided assembly. The more important effect of this is that a particularly low price is possible, significantly cheaper than the other ZIMO decoders - which are assembled on both sides. Cost optimizations have also been made in terms of circuitry, but for the vast majority of applications the MX600 is still a fully-fledged ZIMO decoder. The limitations of the MX600 compared to other ZIMO decoders, which only need to be considered in special cases:
- The MX600 is a pure DCC decoder (there may be MM reception in a later SW version)
- In analogue mode (DC) the MX600 starts a little later (ie at a slightly higher voltage)
- The MX600 has NO SUSI interface and NO servo outputs
