Note: Wired decoders (also ...R and ...F types) are each an electrolytic capacitor 680 to 1000μF included free of charge. This is used to test the energy storage connection; at this capacity the effect is already noticeable. For real use, much larger capacities, e.g. GoldCaps, are recommended.

The term “flat decoder” comes from the low height due to the one-sided assembly. However, their more important effect is that a particularly low price is possible, significantly cheaper than the other - double-sided - ZIMO decoders. Circuitry cost optimizations were also made, but for the vast majority of applications the MX600 is still a fully-fledged ZIMO decoder. The limitations of the MX600 compared to other ZIMO decoders, which only need to be taken into account in special cases:
- The MX600 is a pure DCC decoder (MM reception may be available in a later SW version)
- In analogue operation (DC ) the MX600 starts a little later (ie at a slightly higher voltage)
- The MX600 has NO SUSI interface and NO servo outputs
