After the end of the Second World War, 386 machines of the 86 series were in West Germany. Most of them could be repaired, so that in 1952 the DB had 378 locomotives of this series. In addition to the classic branch line trains, the range of tasks also included the regular transport of express trains and shunting in freight yards. The last machines were taken out of service by the DB in 1974, designated as series 086.
