Direct current version

Insufficient power of the diesel-powered VT 11.5 (BR 601) led to the conversion of four power cars to gas turbine drive in 1971, the most striking feature of which was now the large air intakes in front of the driver's cab, which supplied the turbine with air.
Due to defects, the operation of these trains became increasingly uneconomical, which is why the multiple units running under the designation BR 602 were decommissioned by the DB in 1978 and 1979. Only the power car 602 003 has been preserved for museum purposes; Today it can be found in the DB Museum in Nuremberg.
