The series 152 was developed for heavy freight transport, in order to gradually replace the series 150 in particular. From December 1996, Krauss-Maffei as general contractor - Siemens Verkehrstechnik contributed the electrical part - delivered 170 locomotives to DB AG. Designed as a heavy freight train locomotive, it has a continuous output of 6,400 kW and a permissible maximum speed of 140 km/h.
