150 years ago the foundation stone for this rail connection between Hungary and Austria was laid. On October 15, 1872, Emperor Franz Joseph I granted the concession for the construction of a railway line from Raab (Győr) via Ödenburg (Sopron) to Ebenfurth in Lower Austria. The line between Raab and Ödenburg was opened in 1876, followed by the remaining section to Ebenfurth in 1879. The entire line has been electrified since 1988.
The Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurter Eisenbahn AG, now known as the Raaberbahn (GySEV in Hungary), connects the two countries Austria and Hungary and continues to act as an important link in public transport. To mark the anniversary, the 470 504 received a striking advertising design in May 2022.
