The electric locomotives of the Ae 3/6ˡ series were purchased in several orders from 1921 to 1929. The locomotive 10664 comes from the SLM and BBC workshops. Due to the long procurement time, technical innovations were also installed. The locomotives' power increased from 1,450 kW to 1,600 kW. Thanks to the good running characteristics, the maximum speed could also be increased. From 1929 from 90 km/h to 100 km/h and for the more powerful locomotives (from No. 10637) in 1937, after adjustments to the running axle bogie, to 110 km/h.

The locomotive 10664, built in 1926, was based in the Bern, Zurich and Rohrschach depots. From 1990 to 2010 it was used as a historic traction vehicle by the "Eisenbahnfreunde Zürichsee rechts Ufer" (Railway Friends of Lake Zurich, right bank). To this day, it is housed in the Rapperswil depot as a serviceable historic vehicle and is the property of the SBB Historical Heritage Foundation (SBB Historic).
