Kato K101889 - E001 Shiki-Shima multiple unit, 10 pieces, JR East, Ep. VI

The E001 is operated by JR East and is also known as the Train Suite Shiki-shima and is a one-off. The luxury train offers space for 34 passengers plus staff and has been in use since 2017. The hybrid multiple unit, built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries/J-TREC, has been in use since May 2017 and operates from Ueno. JR East offers 2-, 3-, and 4-day rail cruises with the Train Suite. In addition to 15 very elegantly furnished suites, travelers have another two luxury suites to choose from. There is also a dining car, a lounge and an observation car in the ten-car train. The E001 is powered either by a diesel engine or electrically via the overhead line, with the multiple unit reaching a top speed of 110 km/h.
