Prototype information

The Étoile du Nord was a train that connected Paris to Amsterdam via Brussels and operated from the 1920s to the mid-1990s. The train initially consisted of Pullman carriages of the Compagnie des wagons-lits, pulled by steam locomotives.
The Étoile du Nord began operating between Paris and Brussels during the 1920s and was operated by the Chemins de Fer du Nord and the SNCB. When the Compagnie des wagons-lits resumed operating this train in 1927, Amsterdam became the new destination1,2. With the arrival of a brand new diesel vehicle in 1957, the route of the Étoile du Nord was extended to Amsterdam and this train was integrated into the Trans-Europ-Express pool. Until the end of the 1950s, the first passenger carriages were the luxurious Pullman carriages of the sleeping car company Compagnie des wagons-lits.
