Jouef HJ4188 - SNCF, car transporter DD DEV 66 in green livery with white “Casquette” logo, Ep. V
Prototype information
From the 1960s, a massive use of rail transport services began throughout Europe. In the case of night trains or day express trains, the composition was expanded to include platform wagons for the transport of passenger vehicles. This made it possible to cover long distances by train without having to travel a long stretch of road.
The bogie and double-deck wagons were built in the early 1960s for various European networks. These wagons could transport 12 vehicles, six on each floor. Two-story facilities were required in the railway terminals for loading. Thanks to the bogies and their braking and rolling systems, these vehicles could run coupled in fast passenger trains without limiting their top speed. The advent of high-speed trains and the cessation of night trains throughout Europe led to the decline and end of the services provided by this type of vehicle.
