Hobbytrain H3052 - Electric locomotive BR 163 DB, Ep.IV, red/black
Hobbytrain electric locomotive BR 163 DB, Ep.IV, red/black
In 1934, the Deutsche Reichsbahn ordered four C-coupled locomotives from AEG and three C-coupled locomotives from BBC/Kraus Maffei. The AEG locomotives differ visually from the BBC machines due to their angular and flatter fronts. They were a little slower but had more power at 725 kW. After delivery, the locomotives were stationed in Munich and Stuttgart. The DB's locomotives ran in Augsburg, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Munich and Stuttgart. In 1960/61 the locomotives were extensively modernized and received shunting platforms and additional windows as well as the DB's red paint. From 1976-79 the locomotives, renamed BR 163 from 1968, were decommissioned. The last locomotive is No. 163 002. E63 01 and E63 02 are still preserved as museum locomotives.
