NOHAB is the name for the European license variant of the American standard locomotive of the F series from EMD, a subsidiary at the time of the GM Group. The diesel locomotive was purchased by many railway administrations in Eastern and Western Europe in various wheel arrangements and is still in use today. The round nose (“Bulldog nose”) at the top of the locomotive with the narrow, downward-sloping windows gave the locomotive its typical appearance. The type designation comes from the licensee Nydqvist och Holm AB / NOHAB in Trollhättan, Sweden.
