The series 70.0 was a tender locomotive for light passenger trains. It was commissioned by the Royal Bavarian State Railways as the Pt 2/3 type. Between 1909 and 1916, a total of 97 machines were built by Krauss in Munich. In order to optimize traffic on the local railways, a door was installed at the rear through which the stoker could enter the train to take over the duties of the conductor. Another characteristic feature of this locomotive was the exceptionally large distance between the driving axle and the running axle of 4,000 mm. This resulted in an economical but economically viable lightweight construction of the machine, which proved to be extremely successful.
After the Second World War, the DB took over 89 locomotives, which could reach speeds of up to 65 km/h, and used them on southern German branch lines until the 1960s. The last locomotive was decommissioned in 1963.
