From 1959, a general repair (GR) was carried out on a number of locomotives in the Reichsbahn repair shop (RAW) in Stendal, during which only the war-related "refinements" had to be removed and worn components or undersized assemblies had to be replaced. During the general repair, mainly only the boilers and steering frames were replaced. The locomotives retained their original serial number.
