From 1936, the German Reichsbahn Company put streamlined express train cars into service. Windows and doors were completely flush with the outside wall of the car, the side walls were pulled down beyond the actual end of the car and between the bogies. The "apron cars" thus achieved a significant reduction in air resistance. In 1974, eight apron dining cars were painted ocean blue and beige.
