With the commuting of long-distance trains from 1996, the SBB acquired 60 control cars of the type IC Bt. The Intercity shuttle trains formed with them consist of the control cars, adapted intermediate cars EW IV, former French baggage cars and locomotives of the type Re 460. The vehicle, which offers 62 seats, is conceptually based on the well-known Eurocity cars. The equipment also includes a wheelchair, stroller and bicycle compartment as well as a closed toilet system with bioreactor. The head shape and driver's cab largely correspond to the Re 460 locomotives, which achieves a homogeneous appearance.
