After building test cars in 1936-38, the DRG put streamlined express train cars into service. Windows and doors were completely flush with the outside wall of the car, the side walls were pulled down beyond the actual end of the car and between the bogies. The "Schürzen cars" thus achieved a significant reduction in air resistance. The Reichspost and MITROPA also ordered cars in the new shape.
