In pine green with decorative stripes

After the end of the war, 44 locomotives of the DRG series E 94 were in Austria. In 1952, the ÖBB ordered three more locomotives. The series designation was changed from E 94 to series 1020 in 1954. The series 1020 was used for over five decades in freight train and ramp service in almost all of Austria.
The color appearance of the series 1020 changed over time from pine green to blood orange to traffic red. However, not all machines were affected. After the last of the three pine green replica machines was taken out of service in 1985, there were no more green 1020s in service. It was not until 1990 that the 1020 042 was painted in pine green and was then also available for nostalgic purposes (including as a locomotive for the nostalgic Orient Express).

About a year later, the 1020 047 was also painted pine green. In addition, two green decorative lines were applied to the locomotive body and one decorative line each to the front end. In contrast to the 1020 042, the 1020 027 was still covered with ÖBB logos, which were later removed.
