For the realization of the concept " The SBB acquired 24 locomotives of this series as part of the "Railway 2000" project. A further series of 75 locomotives was built to handle the piggyback corridor through Switzerland, which was to be guaranteed from 1 January 1994. These locomotives were later allocated to passenger transport with the divisionalisation. To this day, they are indispensable for the traction of the dense Swiss regular traffic.
