Prototype information

The popular 591 series Ferrobuses were ubiquitous for years on practically the entire Spanish rail network. Due to the low level of electrification of the lines, almost all areas of the country could count on Cercanías or regional trains with these endearing diesel railcars. Until then, most of the suburban or regional traffic was carried out, at best, with railcars from the first half of the century. In other cases, traffic was carried out with steam locomotives and old-fashioned wooden railcars that provided these services.

With a power of 300 CV and a maximum speed of 90 km/h, they were a milestone in the modernization of the RENFE fleet in the 1960s, revolutionizing local and medium-distance transport. Although their usual and best known composition is 2 units, there was also the 300 sub-series, which consisted of 3 units from the beginning. It was the first sub-series to be put into service and was used in the areas where there was greater demand, as it made it possible to increase passenger capacity without having to resort to double compositions.

Due to its success, it was decided to extend a subsequent sub-series to 4 units and to use another with 2 units for routes with lower occupancy. Electrotren reproduces a 3-part railcar from this sub-series under the designation HE2002 in a design typical for the 1970s with UIC registration.
