Prototype information

The 12 locomotives of the 7200 series were taken over by the Comapañía del Norte from the end of 1928 and assigned to the Irún depot, where they replaced the steam locomotives on the most important trains, always operating on the lines of the Basque Country and sharing service with the 7000 and 7100, especially when both series were transferred from Catalonia to Miranda de Ebro, from where they expanded their radius of action with the advancing electrification, but generally did not go beyond Burgos and were used on all types of trains. After the Irún depot, their reference depot was Miranda de Ebro, where they were at the head of famous trains such as the "Surexpreso", the "Costa Vasca" or the "Iberia Expreso".
The 12 locomotives of the 7500 series were built between 1944 (7501 and 7502) and 1945 (7503 to 7512) by the Compañía Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) on behalf of the newly founded RENFE.
The 7500 had a power of around 3500 hp, about 700 more than the 7200, with practically the same weight and a traction force of 14600 kg compared to the 13000 kg of the 7200. Although CAF was responsible for the mechanics and assembly, the electrical system came from the Swiss companies Brown Boveri and Oerlikon, and like the 7200, they were equipped with a Buchli transmission. They were assigned to the Príncipe Pío depot, where they always performed the same services and underwent only a few mechanical or decorative changes.
