ESU 50012 - ECoSBoost ext. Booster, 7A, MM/DCC/SX/M4, set with power supply 120-240V, EURO + US, manual German / English
Technical details
Indispensable components of every large model railway system are amplifiers (also called "boosters"): If the power consumption of all moving trains with their functions, the lighting of the carriages and functional models is greater than the maximum current that the central unit can provide, you must divide your system into several supply sections, each of which is supplied by its own booster. The ECoSBoost is designed for exactly this task: It is perfectly tailored to use with our ESU ECoS. The ECoSBoost delivers 7A output current and is supplied with a suitably dimensioned power supply unit.
Operating modes
The ECoSBoost is connected directly to the ECoSlink socket of the central unit and receives its control signals from there. It is able to amplify the DCC data formats with RailComPlus®, Motorola®, Selectrix® and M4 and send them to the track.
Thanks to "Plug&Play", all ECoSBoosts are automatically integrated into the list of external ECoSlink devices and can be monitored and configured centrally on the ECoS display.
Functions
ECoSBoost amplifies the data signals coming from the digital control center and sends them to the track output. 7 amps of continuous output current are available. This is more than enough for around 18 H0 locomotives running at the same time. The ECoSBoost is powered by the supplied switching power supply with a stabilized DC output.
The configuration and monitoring of each ECoSBoost is carried out conveniently directly on the ECoS: You can individually set the maximum permissible output current for each amplifier. In addition, you can display the current power consumption of each booster to find out how much "reserve" is still available. It is also extremely useful to be able to set separately for each ECoSBoost whether it should be switched off in the event of a system short circuit or not: For example, if you have connected your switch decoders to a separate ECoSBoost, the switches can still be switched reliably in the event of a rail short circuit.
Feedback
However, an ECoSBoost can do more than just amplify and output the traction current: Each one has a feedback detector (global detector) for RailCom® built in as standard. This allows you to read CVs on the main track and automatically register new locomotives with RailComPlus®-capable decoders directly on the booster section.
The ECoSBoost also supports M4 feedback: All mfx® locomotives supplied by the ECoSBoost then behave exactly as they do when operated directly at the control center and can of course register automatically or transfer configuration changes.
Protection
Every ECoSBoost meets the safety requirements and conditions for model railway operation: The rail output is protected against overload as well as short circuits.
The ECoSBoost can distinguish between a "real" short circuit and a brief current short circuit when driving over switches and separation points. As with our locomotive decoders, we generally place great importance on making the device largely indestructible.
Future built in
The operating software of the microcontroller integrated in every ECoSBoost can be updated fully automatically by the ECoS control center if required. You don't have to worry about anything. This way, your ECoSBoost is always up to date with the latest technology.
