Brawa 46836 - H0 standard through-car B2mep CFL
Prototype information
The development of the two-axle standard through carriages of the interchangeable design is closely linked to the emergence of standardization of components in the railway system as a key industry in the 1920s. The German Reichsbahn Company (DRG) had set itself the goal of having wagon components manufactured across companies according to the same specifications and conditions in order to be able to drastically reduce the cost of maintenance in its own factories later and to make components interchangeable. Against this background, the DRG commissioned the Society of German Waggon Factories (DWV) to develop and supply the desired standard through carriages. Due to the specification of interchangeable construction, around 1,400 drawings were no longer necessary for each individual wagon type. Instead, there was a basic type on which the modified designs were based with around 150 of their own drawings. Starting in 1928, several delivery series produced approximately 5,500 carriages of the various types BCi-28, Ci-28, CDi-29, Pwi-28, Ci-29 BCi-29, Pwi-29, Bi-29 and Ci-30 for passenger transport. The carriages met the expectations of the DRG. As a result, many older state railway carriages and splinter types were taken out of service. The carriages' running characteristics, which were not particularly satisfactory for passengers, quickly earned them the well-known nickname "blunderbusses". The chaos of war inevitably led to many European railway companies also having two-axle standard through carriages in their inventory. What they all had in common, however, was that the carriages were withdrawn from general maintenance stock towards the end of the 1960s and beginning of the 1970s. The cars that still exist today are very popular with various museum railways at home and abroad.
