Prototype information

Despite high losses, the DB still had a sizeable stock of standard branch line carriages and the trailers derived from them. As before the war, most of them were used between Freiburg, Neustadt and Seebrugg. Passenger carriages usually ran in the other directorates as individual units. The trailers often ran behind combustion railcars and also with ETA, so the DB converted most of them into control cars. However, there were still vehicles that could only be used as trailers and some control cars for combustion railcars. The Nuremberg BD remained an El Dorado for these in the 1950s. On numerous main and branch lines, VTs of the pre-war design with VB and VS ensured cost-effective operation before they were replaced by the savior of the branch lines - the rail bus.
