Prototype information

In the summer timetable of 1956, the Dortmund Hbf depot used a total of three six-car push-pull train sets, consisting of a Bif (command car), an ABib car and four Bib cars of the standard car types, which depending on the direction of travel , were pulled or pushed by a class 78 locomotive from the Bww Dortmund Bbf.
These push-pull trains ran from Dortmund Hbf several times a day to Hagen, Witten, Herne, Wanne-Eickel and Gelsenkirchen in the forerunner of the S-Bahn service. The three running schedules started between 4 and 5 a.m. and sometimes ended just before midnight. With turnaround times at the destination stations often around 10 minutes, the advantages of push-pull trains were fully exploited in terms of timetables.
