Role model information

Intercity 2 (IC 2) is the new name for the TWINDEXX-Vario® trains in use at DB Long-Distance since the timetable change on December 13, 2015. The TWINDEXX-Vario® is a further development of the proven double-decker platform from Görlitz. There are 468 seats available per train, 70 of which are in first class, as well as 10 bicycle parking spaces. The maximum permitted speed of the trains is 160 km/h. Back in 2010, Bombardier Transportation received its first order for 27 five-car double-decker wagon trains in combination with BR 146.5 locomotives from a previously concluded framework agreement for a total of 800 double-decker wagons with DB AG. In the meantime, 69 train units with a total of 328 individual cars have been called up from this framework agreement.

In DB Fernverkehr's long-distance transport concept, the IC 2 are intended to gradually increase the capacity of long-distance transport and replace previous IC trains. As of the beginning of 2019, the IC 2 is already running on the following routes:
Leipzig – Norddeich Mole
Dresden – Cologne
Koblenz – Norddeich Mole
Stuttgart – Singen
Karlsruhe – Nuremberg
And more are being planned.
