BRAWA 50934 - H0 Boxcar Glr22 "Kuba Imperial" DB
Exemplary information
The German state railway wagon association's association designs also included a large-capacity covered freight wagon, which was used in particular for low-weight and large-volume goods. After the DRG was founded, the most important standard freight wagons were redesigned according to the so-called replacement construction principles. The manufacturing tolerances were kept so small that replacement parts could be changed without any problems. The design of the new, spacious G-Wagen was based heavily on its predecessor model. The main dimensions such as wheelbase and length were adopted via buffers, as were the two-meter-wide right-opening doors, which were, however, installed hanging. What was new were the riveted trusses, which allowed the long beam to be lower, and the barrel-shaped roof instead of the basket arch of the previous cars. Some of the cars had a handbrake with a brakeman's cab and/or changing wheel sets for the transition to the Russian broad gauge, recognizable by the white-painted buffer sleeves and the secondary class symbol "r". All covered, large-capacity wagons were classified in the “Dresden” category. As already mentioned, the wagons were particularly suitable for light goods with large volumes (e.g. glass industry). When the design was later revised, some changes were made - for example, longer and softer suspension springs were installed, which allowed higher speeds and thus also the use in passenger trains. After 1945, as a result of the chaos of war, both German railway administrations and many other European railways also had wagons of this type in their inventory. The last ones only went out of service in the 80s - proof of the quality and longevity of the construction.
