Role model information

For a long time, tank wagons were unsuitable for transporting aggressive liquids such as acids. Although there were already boilers with a rubber lining in the 1920s, pot wagons were still generally used to transport such goods. The wagon construction companies usually used the base frame of the association design with a 4.00m or 4.50m wheelbase and arranged ten or twelve earthenware pots, each with a capacity of 1000 - 1200, on it. The pots are held by wooden and rubber supports, the box supports are stiffened by diagonal struts. The floor, which is sloped to facilitate the drainage of overflowing cargo, is partially protected by a bitumen compound or with lead sheeting. There is a wooden walkway between the pots. The pots are closed with rubber or wooden stoppers. A high front wall protects the personnel on the brakeman's platform, which is mandatory for caution vehicles. Many small and larger chemical companies had registered such cars as private cars at the respective railway headquarters. In the Federal Republic of Germany, Degussa donated its last pot wagon to the Bochum-Dahlhausen Railway Museum in 1985. Pot wagons could still be observed in use at the DR in 1990; several clubs have preserved wagons in their inventory, including those in Aschersleben, Magdeburg and Staßfurt.
