BRAWA 48990 - H0 sliding wall car Hbis299 “Krups” DB
Role model information
Until the mid-1960s, the DB purchased numerous special cars with lifting sliding roofs and sliding walls. However, studies have shown that in many cases there is no need for an opening roof and that optimized access from the side is sufficient for most cargo. The Hbis 299, initially called Klmmgs, was built from 1966 onwards. The design largely corresponded to the most recently built type Tbis 869 sliding roof wagons; in particular, accessibility to the corners was improved. The center column was only 320 mm wide, whereas it was 1000 mm in the sliding roof cars. The wagons proved their worth in operation and were accepted by the loaders. By 1970, 2,950 had already been built, and the maximum number of 8,444 was reached in 1975. Since 1974, the cars have been equipped with spark protection plates at the factory, and some of the older cars were retrofitted with them. From 1984 they received the national subgenre letters -ww. Around half of the wagons built were equipped with the “Daberkow” transport protection system. These became Hbis-t from 1979 and Hbils in 1984. However, from the mid-1980s onwards, all transport protection devices were removed. In 1991, 754 cars received reinforced, lockable partitions and were henceforth called Hbills-x. In 1994, DB AG took over a total of 8,403 wagons of all types of the BA 299. In 2000, 2,500 wagons were still in use with “Railion”, with the Hbis-ww making up the largest share with around 2,700 wagons. Eight years later, just over 1,000 Hbis-ww and 90 Hbills-x are still available for freight transport. In combination with newer sliding wall wagons, they now stand out thanks to their almost delicate appearance. The original color was unpainted aluminum, the base frame was black. During operation, this results in all shades of contamination; address fields are highlighted light or dark when new labels are added, sometimes both. Rented cars sometimes had an advertising label on the adjuster.
