Prototype information
The DB's standard mainline diesel locomotive was the single-engine V160 and the versions modified from this locomotive. The 10 pre-series locomotives from 1960 and 1963 were followed by the 214 series engines from 1964 to 1968. The locomotives were built by Krupp, Henschel, Krauss-Maffei and KHD. From Hamburg-Altona to Trier, the locomotives were located in 16 depots scattered throughout Germany.
