Arnold HN2487S - DR, steam locomotive 42 1792, Ep. III, with DCC sound decoder
Prototype information
The heavy freight train locomotive of the 42 series
While many metals were in short supply during the wartime production of the prototypes and savings had to be made wherever possible, we have gone the other way with our new Arnold model! The heavy freight train tender locomotive in N gauge is made almost entirely from high-quality die-cast metal. The motor located in the boiler is quiet, powerful and has a brass flywheel. There is space in the tender for a decoder and loudspeaker.
The prototypes were almost always seen in use in both Germany and Austria, among other things, in front of long coal trains. The new Arnold models are therefore the perfect train locomotives for the HN6381, HN6382 and HN6383 carriage sets.
Production of the 42 series, initially known as the "KDL 3", began in 1943. After the Second World War, around 1,000 machines were scattered across Europe and some were even rebuilt until 1949. The last BR 42 was not taken out of service by the ÖBB until 1968, in Germany a little earlier.
