Arnold HN4449 - SNCF, 2-piece set DEV AO passenger coach B10, in green-grey livery with "Nouille" logo, Ep. IV
Prototype information
After the Second World War for the traffic of the main lines had to replace destroyed equipment and the old series. We took advantage of the war time to lighten them without compromising safety. Initially they were equipped with a fairing to improve aerodynamics, but this feature was quickly abandoned due to maintenance problems. Some of them were selected in 1955 to break speed records.
To reduce resistance to progress, the developers' devers minimized the projections, in particular the doors on the boxes of the cars and the masking of the access steps. The first series were short (23,344 m), but they were lengthened to 25,094 m after the studies of German engineers from Deutsche Bundesbahn, who had designed 26,400 m long. The series was named after the year of their order.
The new Arnold models follow the models of the discs U55, U56, U57 and U59, the "Dev ao Long". They were part of the French railway landscape until the end of the 1990s, but were also found in international traffic, such as the D242 Paris - Berlin - Warszawa (Arnold HN4437)
