Arnold HN2353S - RENFE, two-car diesel railcar of the 591.500 series, cream-brown "Estrella" livery, Ep. IV, with DCC sound decoder
Prototype information
The first Ferrobuses were built in 1962 by Uerdingen in Germany and formed the FRC 302 to 316 series. In 1963, the first Ferrobuses FER 317 to 346 built in Spain and a third batch FER 347 to 361 built in Germany were received. Their commissioning enabled Renfe to replace steam trains and create new diesel depots. The success of this series prompted Renfe to purchase further units, which formed the FER/FRI 401 to 434 and FER/FRI 435 to 468 series. In 1967, the series was expanded again with the FER 469 to 522. With the commissioning of the 400/500 series, some intermediate cars of the 300 series were converted to control cars to complement the 400/500 series railcars. These trains operated throughout Spain on all kinds of routes, for example as commuter trains in Madrid or Valencia, on routes of more than 300 kilometers, for example from Valencia to Cartagena or from Madrid to Burgos.
