Kato K1761971 - Diesel locomotive EMD E8A AMTRAK, Ep. IV, #4316, DAY ONE
When operations began in 1971, Amtrak did not have its own rolling stock and instead used locomotives and passenger cars from various other railroads in their original livery. From 1972 onwards, however, all cars were repainted in Amtrak colors (Phase I).
For an exhibition in New York, Amtrak's E8A diesel locomotive with the company number 4316 was given a special black paint job. This color scheme was later referred to as “Day One” livery.
