Prototype information

During the electrification of the Valenciennes-Thionville line, the monophase 25 kV current is essential. The technological choices uncertain in 1952, the SNCF undergoes different motorization solutions and then orders 4 series of different locomotives (BB 12000, BB 13000, CC 14000 and CC 14100). The shape of all these locomotives with the two pantographs placed above the single driving cabin, the two motor dogs of tapered shape and the unusual blue livery for locomotives give a touch of family men to all these locomotives which have in common the nickname "iron". . The CC 14000/14100 locomotives are reserved for goods traffic with a maximum speed of 60 km/h, while the BB 12000/13000 locomotives are intended for mixed passengers and goods.
Built in 20 copies and put into service between January 1955 and March 1959, CC 14000 of 2,640 kW were used for heavy trains of ore and coal goods in the north and east, but fell victim to the low reliability of the converter group and asynchronous engines.
The CC 14100 is less powerful with 1860 kW, with 102 units, but fell into disrepair in the 1980s under the fall of mining and steel traffic. The last 5 machines (CC 14125, 14146, 14153, 14155 and 14183) were cancelled in June 1997.
