Prototype information

In order to achieve a higher loading space of 40m3, the underframe and wheelbase of the previous Otmm wagons were extended by 500 mm. The AW Paderborn built the first of these cars with a capacity of 40 m3 on a trial basis in 1961. The design proved successful and so the AW Kaiserslautern and Weiden built over 16,000 Otmm 70/Ed 090 between 1961 and 1970, also using old usable Omm 37 profiles Wagons - designated as Fc 090 from 1980 - ran as individual wagons and in block trains with all kinds of bulk goods. The lack of swing-roof wagons meant that they were also used to transport grain, covered with tarpaulins. Consequently, 1,500 cars were equipped with swivel roofs in 1978/79 and designated Tdgs-z 932. Many others received a G/P change, became S-capable and were designated as Fcs 090 or, from 1991, prepared for continued operation as Fcs 092. In 1994, DB AG took over 8,500 Fc(s) 090, which were retired by 2007. Around 2,600 of the Fcs 092 were still in use in 2012, and a further 786 cars were used as Fcs-x 092 in coal traffic.
