Role model information

As early as 1949, the DB carried out tests with so-called lifting sliding roof cars. For this purpose, conventional folding-top wagons were purchased again and these were compared with the test wagons in operation. These were similar to conventional O-cars with a two-wing door in the middle of the car, but had a half-slidable aluminum roof. The remaining four-axle test O-cars OOfs Kattowitz and OOf Berlin were also converted in this way. The cars were very well received by shippers, so that from 1951 onwards they were purchased in series as Kmmks 51. It was included under number 679 in the list of wagon category numbers, which the DR continued to use as the DOK number until 1993. The use of hollow box profiles for the outer side beam was also characteristic here, although the cars were otherwise not structurally related to the Omm 52. Some of the cars received a handbrake in the form of the screw-on standard brakeman's stand, which was initially equipped with a brakeman's cab. While the first cars still had the open Siegener Schakenbocks and Hik-GP brakes, after just a few cars KE brakes and Uerdinger Schakenbocks became standard. In contrast to the previous folding top wagons, the Kmmks 51 were also equipped with front flaps so that moisture-sensitive bulk goods could be quickly unloaded using front tipping systems. By 1967, 4,575 cars had been built, the last of which were given the UIC-compliant designation Ts-51. In addition to bulk goods such as lime, potash, salt and clay, typical loads included metal sheets, rolls of sheet metal and heavy piece goods.
